Requiem was composed for Christian Lane and the musicians of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Baltimore, Maryland. The work premiered on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at 4pm, sharing the program with Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Mass for the Endangered.
Requiem is in eight movements and draws on the traditional requiem mass texts, featuring a combination of Latin texts and English translations, with the chorus generally singing in Latin and the solo voices performing in English. The movements include: 1. Introitus/Kyrie; 2. Offertorium; 3. Sanctus/Benedictus; 4. Agnus Dei; 5. Lux Aeterna; 6. Pie Jesu; 7. Libera me; and 8. In Paradisum.
The orchestration includes one-per-part winds (flute doubling piccolo, oboe, English horn, Bb clarinet, bassoon), one-per-part brass (horn in F, Bb trumpet, bass trombone), harp, organ, and string section (1st and 2nd violins, violas, violoncellos, and contrabasses). The Kyrie features solo violoncello.
