Introspections for string ensemble is adapted from an original organ work by the same name, composed for organist Heinrich Christensen. Written during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2021, the movements reflect the composer’s anxieties about that extremely unsettling period of social and political unrest, isolation, climate change, and uncertainty for the future. Ultimately, the composing of this work served as cathartic tool, a means to help the composer process unrelenting feelings of disquietude during such a tumultuous time. For more detailed information about each movement, see the “Blog” section of this site.
The suggested minimum number of strings for a small ensemble includes 4 first violins, 3 second violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, 2 basses; those numbers should offer sufficient to support the divisi writing in the violin parts.
